Sometimes you’ve just got to dance—like everyone’s watching.
And in my case, they were.
Last week at the Red Bull Dance Your Style Australia event at The Hordern, the beats were pumping, the vibe was electric, and the energy was contagious. In the middle of intermission, surrounded by a crowd of over 1,000 people, I did something I didn’t plan for:
I danced.
Right there in the middle of the crowd, straight toward my wife. Spontaneous hip hop moves. No hesitation. No shame.
She burst out laughing (the good kind). My sons were equal parts impressed and embarrassed. And to top it off, I even landed the splits—which earned me a cheer from the crowd. On my way back to my seat, one guy slapped me a high five with a grin that said, “You’ve got courage, mate.”
Why I Did It
Because even after years of delivering keynotes and training leaders and teams, I still believe in stepping out of my comfort zone.
I’m not a breakdancer. I wasn’t spinning on my head. But I had a go. And that’s what life is about—choosing courage in moments where the easy option would be to sit still.
Those moments remind us that growth doesn’t happen in our comfort zone. It happens in the risk. In the stretch. In the laughter that follows when you realise you survived it—and maybe even thrived.
A Question for You
So here’s my call-out:
👉 Is it time for you to dance like everyone’s watching?
Whether it’s trying something new at work, having the conversation you’ve been avoiding, or raising your hand for an opportunity that scares you—take the step.
Because when you do, you discover more of what you’re capable of. And life gets a whole lot more fun.
The Proof Is in the Moves
🎥 And yes, there’s proof—here’s the clip of me attempting my best “breakdancer” moves in front of 1,000 people. Enjoy the laughs!
Big thanks to the incredible dancers and the crowd who made the night unforgettable. And a special shout-out to my friend Michael Fardell and the Screencraft Media team for their outstanding filming and video production on the night.
