Walking into Federation Council’s mechanic shop, surrounded by nearly 100 staff dressed in safety gear, I immediately knew this would be a session to remember. The atmosphere was incredible—down-to-earth, practical, and full of purpose. It felt like stepping back to my roots as a farm kid in Saskatchewan, spending countless hours in my dad’s workshop welding, changing tractor oil, and fixing engines. I felt right at home.
The day was about more than just safety—it was about leadership, resilience, and well-being. Federation Council’s Leadership group demonstrated their commitment by organising a Safety Day that combined practical sessions with heartfelt storytelling. After my keynote on resilience and work-life balance, the team transitioned into safety workshops, where Alan Newey shared his powerful and sobering story of losing an arm in a workplace accident. His message was a poignant reminder of why safety should always be a top priority.
One of the moments that stayed with me was the feedback from Dean Skipper, who said:

It’s days like these that remind me why these conversations matter. Safety isn’t just about avoiding risks; it’s about creating a culture where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. Federation Council is leading by example, and I’m grateful to have been part of such an impactful day.
